Is Chris Paul MVP chance now gone? Has there been a team that had both Coach of the Year and NBA MVP

This is not taking anything from K. Bryant. It's a question of whether a team with the Coach of the Year, will have a chance of having the NBA MVP as well.

Is Chris Paul MVP chance now gone? Has there been a team that had both Coach of the Year and NBA MVP?nba champs

Yes, it has happened a few times before:

2005 Suns Mike D'Antoni COTY, Steve Nash MVP

2002 Spurs Gregg Popavich COTY, Tim Duncan MVP

1996 Lakers Phil Jackson COTY, Michael Jordan MVP

1990 Lakers Pat Riley COTY, Magic Johnson MVP

1973 Celtics Tom Heinsohn COTY, Dave Cowens MVP

1970 Knicks Red Holzman COTY, Willis Reed MVP

1969 Bullets Gene Shue COTY, Wes Unseld MVP

1966 76ers Dolph Schayes COTY, Wilt Chamberlain MVP

1965 Celtics Red Auerbach COTY, Bill Russel MVP

Don't forget in 1996 Michael Jordan won the MVP and Phil Jackson also won the Coach of the Year. Don't forget Toni Kukoc won 6th man of the year and the GM won Executive of the year. Has there ever been a team to win 4 awards like that? Oh yeah, my Bulls team did win an NBA record 72 wins, a record that will never be broken, as well as win the NBA title in the same year. (sorry I had to throw that in there)
i dont think his chances are gone....

having a CotY award means his players excelled and over achieved and that is what CP3 did... Kobe is expected as always to be kobe.... but who thought they would destroy the mavs.... and also lead the hornets in the west

kobe was expected to be in the playoffs and score 30 a night..but did he elevate the plays of others? i dont think so... not the way cp3 did... he was expected to be in the playoffs due to having phil jackson... and now gasol.... honestly lakers are all hype but i dont see the championship there..

so i say Cp3 isnt out of the race yet :D i wish he wins MVP
as answered above it has happened. and i really hope it can again. kobe has done no more than ever. other people have just stepped up and they have gained another all star player. chris paul on the other hand improved so so dramaticaly and deserves this title. scary thing is he is only going to get better, hes so young.
In 2005, Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns won the MVP. Mike D'Antoni from the same team won COTY.

And in 2003, Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs won the MVP. Gregg Popovich from the same team won COTY.

So yes, it can happen.

CP3 for MVP
